I was so sorry to hear of the loss of Shirley. Shirley was a close friend of mine in Elementary and Jr. High school.

I started fourth grade at Houston and Shirley and I became close friends. We were inseperable. We spent alot of time after school together. We didn't live real close together but either her Dad or mine would take us back and forth to each other's home as much as they could. She was alot of fun and a very good friend. We always hung out at school, also, and I have a picture taken on the school playground of her and I. I think it was taken by our fellow classmate, Gloria.

I have always cherished the picture and will cherish it even more now. I will always remember Shirley as a funny, sweet, loveable and kind friend.

Sincerely,
Cathy(Tackett)Madden

I have endless memories of my dear friend Shirley.  We were very close friends from 6th grad onto graduation.  So many laughs and funny things we did together.  When I was with Shirley I smiled all the time because she just created that atmosphere.  So many good times.  When Shirley was a Jr in highschool her mother passed away and her & her younger sister Sue came to live with me and my family through the week for several months during school. Her Dad worked in St Louis and was not home through the week.  It was a very rough time for Shirley & her family at that time, but she was strong and we still had some wonderful times.  I remember that we would go to her house (where her brothers were still living) and gather up the laundry and bring it back to my house to do.  We use to stand for hours ironing all the shirts etc. for her family.  After graduation seems like time went by so fast and I lost close contact.  I spoke with Shirley for the last time just before our class reunion (not the last but the one prior.)  She said she was coming but did not show up.  I found out later that her husband was very ill and passed away soon after that.  When I heard of her passing  I was very sad and wished I could have spent more time with her.  Her life I believe was good and she had a family she dearly loved.  She is and will always be missed in my heart.
