Melvadeen Garrett (Morton)

Melvadeen Morton, 58, daughter of Jess and Lydia Garrett, was born May 11, 1945, at Success. She died Sept. 19,2003, at her home in Houston after a long illness. A 1964 graduate of Houston High School, she married Charles "Pete" Bay June 1964. They had two daughters, Tracy and Stephanie.  She married Kenneth Morton August 1973. They had one daughter, Melanie. Mrs. Morton spent most of her life in the Houston community as a homemaker. She was active in her church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and taught many years in Bible School. Her hobbies were sewing, quilting, reading and spending time with her daughters and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, her parents and two brothers, Verl and Lyle Garrett. Surviving are her husband of Houston; her daughters, Stephanie Lynn Creek and Melanie Faith Erbschloe of Houston and Tracy LeAnn Hancock of Kansas City; honorary daughter Stephanie Stilley of Houston;six sisters, Vi Chambers of Lebanon,Iola Scott of Iowa,Rita Goldston of Texas,Leta Massey of Huggins and Jean Gaston and Bonnie Gaston of Houston; three brothers, Larry Dale and James Dorman of Houston and Will Garrett of Arkansas; five grandchildren and two step grandchildren. Services were September 22 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Hamilton and the Rev. Kendall Ford officiating. Burial was in the Emory Cemetery near Bucyrus.T
